Uranus is considered an ice planet, even though it has a large gaseous component, because its inner core is believed to be frozen and solid. It rotates in the opposite direction to all the other planets and, uniquely in our planetary system, its rotation axis is tilted almost 90 degrees with respect to the plane of the ecliptic, common to all planets. However, its magnetic field has a lesser inclination, so its ring band and the orbits of its satellites are oriented intermediately between the axis and the magnetic field. This characteristic means that, for example, one of the planet’s poles is oriented toward the sun for 21 years, corresponding to the length of the seasons.
It has 28 satellites, and here I have represented two of them: a larger one, Oberon, and a smaller one, Miranda.
I have tried to convey a visual impression of these oddities.
